Previous staff was in over
Their heads - top to bottom. The players knew and so did the recruits.
I feel very good that we have a proven coach that will not tolerate the inexplicable mistakes the prior staff made over and over.

Wonβt know a lot until
After Pitt and Cal games unless the team is worse than expected.
Schedule is manageable early so canβt buy into hype until some better opponents are beaten.

I hope they do
We definitely could finish ahead of them but our schedule is much more challenging.
One game at a time and forget the last game. If we start the way we could, there will be a lot of Saban style rat poison.

I was at the give it to me Roscoe game - best gameday atmosphere
Ever - any stadium - any game
Hope to hear Lane like that soon

About right
O line was bad and will take time to improve.
ST coaching was abysmal - I expect that to improve.

First four
Are high likelihood wins. Gets tough from there:
- Pitt should win but will be close - glad itβs in Lane
- Cal - going to be tough on the road - but still have a good chance to win
GT - win at home
Clemson - not what they used to be but probably a loss since itβs at Death Valley.
So, there you go. I say first loss is Cal or Clemson.
We owe Miami one and UVA is UVA and wonβt win at Lane.
All aboard the VT bandwagon express!!

Iβm guessing
Franklin will be pretty involved in the offense. Heβs stated that one of the benefits of hiring Pry was to have a person who could run the defense. I donβt think heβs said anything similar about Howle or the offensive staff.
The early tune up games are critical for establishing an offensive identity and rhythm.

Cookies crumble
If they crumble VTs way, could be higher. If not, I think this is close to a floor barring some bad injury luck.
Nice thing is three expected to finish better, we get to play albeit all away from the friendly confines of Lane.

Yes
Always - play to your potential and let the chips fall.
Of course, substituting is going to be important to building depth and getting young players game experience in low risk situations, especially given the new eligibility rules.

Well, you got me there
Something was off with PSU last year. Perhaps a semi-final hangover.
I think heβs mentioned that he may have strayed from his instincts when changing up his staff, but I could be wrong on that.

Enjoy the sense of accomplishment - I really enjoy getting those projects.
Done. Now, go get the Costco size tub of advil.

Nah - Franklin hasnβt had
Many, if any, choke jobs against lesser schools.
Looking at the schedule, I would think Pitt will be the first white knuckler. Nardouchey is an ass but a good, veteran coach.
Only risk I see early is too much rat poison as Saban used to say. If the young men start reading their press clippings, VT will be in deep trouble.

I donβt know - not enough data
It just isnβt complicated - more four and five stars are better.
The better discussion is how to balance us recruiting with the tp and how / when does that strategy need to change.
Under 50 words - gimme a prize!

I think it a very good thing
Debt has to be serviced and reduces financial flexibility.
My suspicion is these are the two schools that thought they were exiting for greener pastures and took on some paper. Now, they have significantly interest payments.
Wouldnβt want to trade places.

Thanks - I found the debt levels interesting
Seems like some of our conference peers are counting on a significant uptick in revenues. FSU has over $400 million in debt compared to VT at ~$65 million. Interest expense should be a tailwind for VT on the spending side.

Interesting how much debt FSU and Clemson
Are carrying. FSU about $437MM and Clemson $244MM with VT at $66MM.
The difference in debt service is meaningful - at 5% cost of debt FSU is spending about 18.5MM more on debt service.
That should be wind in the sails long term.

ACC teams are generally lagging
It would be nice to see the components of revenue to better understand what is addressable vs components that are more fixed in the short run, e.g. tv $$$.

This quote from a Washington Post piece is more relatable
Virginia's Marquis Weeks caps off his 100-yard kickoff return for the touchdown. "That was just instinct. Kind of like running from the cops," said the senior
tailback.

She made an unprecedented decision
I hope she loses but it will take a long time for that to happen.
Call your state reps and let them know how you feel as a constituent and a member of the VT community.

Whitβs biggest mistake and toughest situation
Was clearing out the legacy Beamer crowd. Itβs tough when CFB walks around the building regularly, but Whit made some mistakes by not confronting the obvious.

Shadow cost of affordability
Not the payments to athletes.
My point is that there are hidden costs associated with trying to keep fees / tuition low / affordable. For example, you become less competitive for top academics because your budget is too constrained. Same applied to keeping athletic fees low / below market.

Bad idea - these are private arrangements with a significant non-govβt $$
The market is the market. Focus should be making VT the most attractive landing spot regardless of $$$.
As for employees and students, they both can choose alternative paths. If they donβt view VT is a good value, then they would go elsewhere.
Tech has done a nice job with affordability but it had shadow costs.
